Vehicle Revenue License Renewal

The following documents should be submitted when issuing a vehicle revenue license in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Charter and Circulars.‍

                1.Original Certificate of Vehicle Registration / Certified Copy of the Vehicle Registration / Application for Transfer of Vehicle Ownership If the Certificate of Registration has not been received, it should be submitted along with a photocopy of MTA-11 and CMT-52 issued by the Department of Motor Traffic, Narahenpita.

                2. A valid insurance certificate

                3. Emission Certificate (Smoke Certificate) not exceeding 60 days from the date of issue

                4. Certificate of suitability certified by a registered garage in the Western Province or by a SLTB depot in any part of the island. (Eligibility Certificates are required for vehicles registered as lorries, buses, hearse, Treewheelvans.)

                5.For route permit buses (Onimi buses) issued by the relevant institution at least 14 days valid route permit with photocopy

                6.In the first year of registration, brand new vehicles, vehicles registered before 1975, hybrids and electrics, but not shown in the system, a copy of the registration certificate should be submitted.

In addition to the normal Vehicle Revenue License Issue, Vehicle Revenue Licenses will be issued in the following cases where the Emission Certificate, Insurance Certificate and Certificate of Fitness should be submitted as above depending on the nature of the vehicle.

               7. When issuing free revenue licenses to government agencies, a duly completed (MTS-WP 2) Certificate and the original or a certified photocopy of the registration certificate should be submitted.

               8.Temporary revenue licenses are issued in cases where it is difficult to obtain the vehicle's emission certificate or fitness certificate.

       For this a written request submitted by an approved garage or a photocopy with the original of the bill and registration certificate with the vehicle number should be submitted.

               9.In case of change of ownership of the lost / damaged vehicle, if the ownership of the vehicle is still there, a written request for re-licensing, along with a photocopy of a valid identity card and a photocopy of the vehicle registration certificate can be obtained by making a timely payment and re-issuance.

              10.In case of non-ownership of the vehicle, the original copy of the police complaint with the vehicle number regarding the loss of the revenue license, a photocopy of the valid identity card of the person who made the relevant police complaint and a photocopy of the vehicle registration certificate should be submitted and paid in a timely manner.

  • It is not necessary to obtain a new Emission Certificate of Eligibility to obtain a Revenue License again.

              11.For vehicles transferred from the provinces to the Western Province, a photocopy along with the original copy of the registration certificate, the last obtained revenue license or the final license issued by the Divisional Secretariat (Loos Slip) should be submitted.

              12.For vehicles that have been temporarily taken out of service, a notice of non-use for the next 2 years can be obtained in lieu of the revenue license.

  •  Notice of Use (MTS (WP-8)) should be duly completed and submitted along with a copy of the Certificate of Registration and should be notified before the expiry of the valid revenue license.
